This article explains how operators can allow customers to collect packages from their Hubs.

Overview

Introduction to the package collection flow

Package collection from the hub offers an alternative to delivering directly to a customer’s doorstep. It can be utilized to support the flow in which a recipient of a package, also called customer or consignee, requests to collect their package from the operators hub. This feature allows operators to offer additional ways to get packages into the customer’s hand, can be used as a response to failed delivery attempt and ultimately helps to reduce delivery costs.

MotionTools support this flow primarily by dedicated statuses, called "Ready for collection" and “collected” and allows admins and drivers to transition packages into such statuses via the Dashboard as well as the Driver app. It is also possible to configure custom notifications and see the relevant status on the Package Tracking page.

Update the package status on the Dashboard

As an admin, you can manage package collections directly from the Dashboard:

Mark a package as ready for collection

A package can be marked as ready for collection in three scenarios:

  • When it is in "At Hub" status

  • When it is in "Failed" status

  • When it is in "Scheduled for Delivery" status (in this case, the package will be removed from the scheduled tour)

  • Navigate to the package details page

  • Click the Mark as Ready for collection button

  • The package will transition to "Ready for collection" status

Mark a package as collected

  • Navigate to the package details page

  • Click the Mark as Collected button

  • Confirm the action in the dialog that appears

  • The package will transition to "Collected" status

Cancel a collection

On the package details page

  • Click the Cancel collection button

  • Select a hub in the prompt that appears

  • The package will return to "At Hub" status

On the Packages page

  • Click the Relocate button

  • Select a hub in the prompt that appears

  • The package will return to "At Hub" status

Update the package status in the Driver App (coming soon)

We will be rolling out this feature to the Driver App in the next 2-3 weeks. Stay tuned!
