Pickable Tours

Overview


Introduction

Pickable tours are tours that are ready to start or "to pick" and are presented to the workforce in the driver app typically as a list that is constantly updated in real time. The pickable tour list usually has multiple entries at the same time and can be sorted by certain criteria. As soon as a tour is picked it will be removed from everyone elses devices.

Pickable tours are optimal for operations where the workforce decides spontaneously which tours they will take due to the corresponding booking also coming in spontaneously. A good use case is express delivery, where either the workforce resides at dark stores or kitchens or freely floats within a service area fully of potential pickup points while there is high urgency to start the tour as soon as it was automatically dispatched.


Basic functionality

To be eligible for a Pickable tour, a driver must be in the tour's Service area, available (not busy with other tours), and online with matching capabilities.

In the standard mode, every eligible driver instantly receives a push notification, as soon as a new tour was dispatched and changes into the status "pickable". Drivers with the app open will have their list of available tours updated immediately without manually refreshing. If the "gradual rollout" feature is enabled, Tours are gradually rolled out based on their ranking.

Once a tour is started by any driver, it disappears from the lists of all other drivers, preventing double assignments.โ โ  The driver then carries out the tour right away.

Until a driver arrives at and completes a stop, the tour can be cancelled ("ditched") and will be re-dispatched to the workforce.


Status changes

  • When a driver starts or "picks" a tour, the status moves from Pickable to En Route.

  • If a driver cancels a tour, it moves back to Pickable.


Configurability options

You can define criteria for tours displayed to drivers in the Settings of your tenant in the Driver experience section. There you can set how the tours should be sorted, the sorting direction, results limit and distance restrictions.
