Reattempt package delivery in the same tour

This article explains how our delivery reattempt feature works.

Overview

Introduction

When a package delivery can’t be completed, drivers often arrange to retry the drop-off later during the same tour. With our delivery reattempt feature, you can support this workflow directly in MotionTools.

This feature improves the driver experience, avoiding redundant pickups and ensuring packages are delivered within the same shift.

How it works

  1. A driver attempts to deliver a package at a drop-off stop.

  2. The delivery fails, and the driver selects a specific failure reason that will automatically trigger a reattempt, such as "not available, try again later".

  3. MotionTools marks the package as Failed and immediately redispatches the package as Out for delivery, adding a new drop-off stop to the end of the current tour.

  4. If the corresponding feature is activated, drivers can still rearrange the order of their drop-off stops, in case they want to retry the delivery earlier

Good to know

  • Reattempts are only triggered for drop-off stops at the package’s destination.

  • Multiple failed packages at the same stop will be merged into one new drop-off stop.

  • Drivers can reattempt delivery multiple times, as long as they keep selecting a failure reason that is set to trigger reattempts.

How to enable it
