Getting Started as a Driver

WARNING

Have the following prerequisites been met?

  • You are invited as a driver by your organization. If you were invited, you should have received an invitation email.

  • You have an iPhone with iOS 16 or later, or an Android phone with Android 7.0 or later, with an internet connection and access to the App Store or Google Play Store.

Step 1: Download the MotionTools app

Step 2: Complete the sign-up

Enter Company ID

Open the app, tap Continue, and enter your Company ID. You can find it in the invitation email.

Sign up with the email address that you were invited to (the one where you got your invitation email) and set a password.

WARNING

Please tap the Sign up button to complete your registration for the first time. If you already have an active account, use Sign in.

Complete profile

Complete your profile by adding your first name, last name and your phone number. Please also allow the app to track your device location in the background. When your phone asks for location access, choose Always Allow on an iPhone or Allow all the time on Android. This lets dispatchers see where you are and gives customers an accurate arrival time for their stop.

Step 3: Go online

Go online by sliding the switch at the top of the screen to the right. Then select the vehicle you're driving today. Depending on how the business you work for operates, you might see one vehicle, several, or none at all. If you see none, your dispatcher has already set your vehicle and you go online straight away.

The vehicle you choose decides which tours you see. A bigger vehicle also covers tours for smaller ones: if you choose Car, you can also see tours meant for a Scooter.

Step 4: Pick or accept a tour

Once you're online, you find your tours in the Home, Requests and Upcoming tabs. Depending on how the business you work for operates and where you are, you might not see all of them.

The Home tab shows tours that are due now or overdue. You can pick one and start it straight away. A tour you've started also stays here.

Screenshot

The Requests tab shows tours scheduled for later, usually more than 60 minutes from now. When you accept one, it moves to the Upcoming tab.

Screenshot

The Upcoming tab shows the scheduled tours you've accepted and the ones your dispatcher has assigned to you. You can start a scheduled tour only shortly before its scheduled time, for example 30 minutes before. The scheduled time is when you're expected at the first stop.

INFO

If you don't see any tours, check that you're online in the area you work in. If you still don't see any, contact your dispatcher.

View tour details

Tap a tour to see its details before you take it: all of its stops in order, the route on a map, and any additional information, such as the time window for each stop or what you earn for the tour. You can start or accept the tour right from there.

Screenshot

Step 5: Start a tour and navigate to the first stop

Tap Start tour at the bottom of the screen.

You're now on your way to the first stop. The stop card shows:

  • the address
  • whether it's a pickup or a drop-off, and which stop number it is
  • the contact details for the stop
  • any extra information the business you work for has added, such as the time window you should arrive in

Tap Navigate to open your navigation app and follow the route. To choose which app opens, see How to choose your navigation app.

When you arrive, go back to the MotionTools app and slide Slide when arrived to the right.

Step 6: Check what to do at the stop

Swipe the stop card up to see what to do here, for example what to pick up or drop off. You might also find a note, contact details, links, documents or photos.

Some stops need an extra step before you can complete them:

Follow instructions or a checklist

Read the instructions on the stop card and work through any checklist before you complete the stop.

Screenshot

Check the recipient's ID

For age-restricted goods, you see Check customer ID. Ask the recipient for their ID, tap Enter date of birth and enter the date of birth exactly as shown. Read Date of birth verification in the driver app for details.

Screenshot

Ask for a delivery code

You see Request delivery code. Ask the recipient for the code and tap Enter delivery code. You can only complete the stop once the code is correct. Read Delivery code verification in the driver app for details.

Screenshot

If several stops of your tour are at the same location, you see them as one stop, with a label showing how many it includes. Everything for those stops is on that one card, and completing it completes all of them.

Step 7: Complete the stop

When you're done, slide Slide to complete stop to the right. The app might ask for proof that the stop is done, such as a photo or a signature. Read Collect Proof of Completion in the Driver App for details.

Screenshot

If you can't complete the stop

If the stop can't be completed, for example because the recipient isn't there, it needs to be marked as failed. If the business you work for has turned this on, you can do it yourself: tap the red icon next to the slider and choose a reason. Otherwise, contact your dispatcher, who fails the stop for you.

Step 8: Continue and finish the tour

After you complete a stop, the app shows you the next one. Navigate to it and complete it the same way.

To see the whole tour at any time, tap Full tour details on the stop card. Each stop is numbered, and the color of the number shows its status:

  • gray: still ahead of you
  • orange: the stop you're heading to
  • green: completed
  • red: failed

Completed stops are hidden so the rest of the tour stays in view. Tap View completed stops to show them again. Each stop has its own Navigate button, and you can tap a stop to see its details. You can't complete a stop from this view; use the stop card for that.

Once you've finished all stops, you'll see the Tour completed screen.
