Overview
This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to set up a custom domain for your MotionTools dashboard. By following these instructions, you can personalize your dashboard URL to better align with your brand.
Benefits
Setting up a custom domain for your MotionTools tenant offers several advantages:
- Brand Consistency: Use your own domain to maintain brand consistency across all customer touchpoints.
- Enhanced User Experience: A custom domain makes it easier for your customers to access the customer portal and for dispatchers to access the dashboard.
Prerequisites
- Active subscription with MotionTools to use this feature.
- The feature has been enabled by the customer success team of MotionTools
Step-by-Step Guide
Configure a CNAME DNS Record: Access your DNS management tool / host provider’s control panel and create a CNAME record for your desired domain (e.g. login.yourdomain.com). Point the CNAME record to dashboard.motiontools.io.
Avoid Apex Domains: Do not configure apex domains (e.g., example.com) for custom dashboard domains. Using a CNAME record on the apex can cause issues like email delivery problems. Instead, use a subdomain (e.g. login.yourdomain.com) and set up a redirect from the apex domain to the subdomain using a service like redirect.pizza.
Verify the CNAME Setup: Use a tool like Google Apps Toolbox to verify the CNAME connection (please note, depending on the provider it could take 1-2 days to appear once configured).
Enable Custom Domain: Once the CNAME setup is verified, inform our customer success team via support@motiontools.com to enable the Custom domain for your tenant.
Communicate Changes: Changes are effective immediately. Ensure you communicate the new URL and the time of the change to all affected users through appropriate channels.
